Sometimes teeth require extra surgical intervention to completely remove resistant infections. Endodontic surgery usually refers to the procedure known as an Apicoectomy, or a Root End Resection. This treatment involves removing the tip, or apex, of an infected root, and placing a sealed filling in the remaining root structure. Apicoectomies are in-office procedures performed under local anesthesia.
