Root Canal Therapy, or Endodontic Therapy, involves the diagnosis and treatment of the interior of the tooth. The tissue on the inside of the tooth is called the pulp. The pulp is comprised of nerves, blood vessels, and other cells necessary for the development of the tooth. If the pulp of a tooth becomes diseased, a root canal becomes necessary to alleviate any symptoms. A root canal procedure involves removing the pulp of a tooth, disinfecting the area, shaping the inside of the tooth and sealing it with a biocompatible material.
